Need help with whitening strips

So I’ve never used whitening strips before but even before I put the strips on I get so much salvia buildup that it’s impossible to get them to fully stick and not slide around a bit. I followed the instructions to dry my teeth fully but by the time I got the first one on, I had so much salvia buildup that it just slid right off. Am I doing something wrong here?
