A container ship has been hit by an unknown projectile about 25 nautical miles south of Kish Island, according to the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations.

The incident happened at around 00:45 UTC on 7 April. UKMTO said it received a time-late report from the vessel’s master stating that the ship was struck, causing damage above the waterline.

The crew are safe and all members have been accounted for. No pollution or environmental damage has been reported.

Authorities are investigating the case, and no further details have been shared so far about the projectile.

UKMTO has advised ships in the area to transit with caution and report any suspicious activity.

The incident comes as vessels continue to report security concerns in waters around the Strait of Hormuz and nearby regions.

Between 28 February and 7 April, UKMTO received 28 reports involving vessels operating in the Arabian Gulf, Strait of Hormuz, and Gulf of Oman. Out of these, 17 were reported as attacks, while 11 were linked to suspicious activity.

A day earlier, UKMTO reported another incident at Khor Fakkan Port, where a container ship saw multiple splashes from unknown projectiles close to the vessel.

The Strait of Hormuz remains one of the busiest shipping routes in the world, and vessels passing through the region continue to stay alert due to ongoing tensions.
