Human remains have been found on the Thai-flagged Bulk Carrier Mayuree Naree, which was attacked by Iran’s Revolutionary Guards in March 2026.

When the US-Iran war began, Tehran responded by closing the Strait of Hormuz, a crucial maritime chokepoint that handles 20% of global oil shipments.

Iran also sent warnings to ships in the area to discourage them from crossing the Strait of Hormuz.

Mayuree Naree was attacked while sailing through the waterway after it had left the UAE’s Khalifa Port, and ignored Iran’s warning.

Another Liberian-flagged vessel also became the target of an Iranian attack in March when it tried to cross the Strait.

Transport Company Precious Shipping said in a statement on Friday that human remains were found on the ship.

However, they have yet to confirm the identities or the number of people.

Per reports, 20 crew members, all Thai, returned home by mid-March, but three of their colleagues went missing and were presumed trapped in the engine compartment, which was damaged due to the strike and resultant fire.

Still, a search was carried out then to find the missing crew members under extremely difficult conditions as the engine room of the bulk carrier was flooded.

The Foreign Ministry of Thailand has expressed sadness over their tragic deaths and extended condolences to the families of the deceased crew.
